How long have the Friends been around?
There has been a group of residents involved as volunteers about as long as there has been a library in Elmwood Park.
What do the Friends do?
Our primary purpose is to raise money to enhance library programs and resources. Since 2002 we have raised close to $27,000 through membership fees and bookcase sales.
Where does the money go?
Most of our proceeds go towards special collections, equipment purchases that are not within the annual library budget, and sponsoring of adult and youth programs. The children's puppet theater, Explore-To-Go Science Kits, and an outdoor bench are recent additions supported by the Friends.
What does becoming a member mean?
Our Friends membership is a $5 annual donation. Some members may choose to be active volunteers and attend our monthly meetings, or may assist with special events or attend Friends sponsored programs. Whether or not you join the Friends, purchases from the book sale shelves in the main lobby go to support the Library.
How do I become a Friend of the Elmwood Park Public Library?
Just print out the Membership Form and mail it in with your $5 donation or come to one of our monthly meetings held the 2nd Monday of every month at 1:00 p.m. (except July and August). If you have any questions please contact the Adult Services desk for more information at 708-395-1217 or leave a voicemail directly for the Friends at 708-395-1298.
To see a list of Friends-sponsored events check the library calendar, our newsletter and in-house signage.
