SWAN Improvements

Last week some new improvements went live on the SWAN Online Catalog, in the hopes of making your search experience easier:

  • Fiction/Nonfiction Facets - Now when you do a search in the catalog, you can limit your results to be either fiction or nonfiction.  This helps you weed out unwanted results to better find what you're looking for. Find the Fiction/Nonfiction limiter on the left-hand side of the search results page. Please be aware that this new limiter only applies to books and audiobooks, and not to any visual formats. Also note that poetry, drama plays, mythology, and folklore are all considered nonfiction.

  • Lexile Numbers Added - The Lexile level number has been added to many kid and teen books.  You will find this information in the book's record under Reading Level.  (Please be aware that the Lexile information is not available for every book, as not every book has been evaluated for this leveling system.  For more information, please visit https://lexile.com/)

February - Chicago Wolves Reading Program

February 1-28 • Kids in Preschool - Grade 6

For the month of February only, kids are invited to join the Chicago Wolves Reading Program. We challenge you to read three books before February 28 so you can be entered to win awesome Chicago Wolves prizes.

Stop by the Kids &Teens Desk to for more information, to sign up, or turn in your books!

Tax Forms Have Arrived

It's tax season again, and tax forms have arrived at the Library.

This year, the Library has copies of the Federal 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, as well as some 1040A and 1040EZ instruction booklets.  Need more?  You can download and print the Internal Revenue Service’s forms and instruction booklets from the IRS website. You may also request that the IRS mail you tax forms directly by ordering them on the IRS website or calling 1.800.829.3676.

This year we also received a limited number of Illinois 1040 forms.  Check the Illinois Department of Revenue website for more printable tax forms.  Visit the Illinois Department of Revenue website if you have additional questions or would like to file online.

Just remember, Library staff are not qualified to help you with your taxes, but if you want more information about filing assistance, local offices, and additional filing options we can point you in the right direction.  Or you can visit the Tax Services page on our website.
