Classroom Loans & Book Discussions

Do you need a set of books to use in your classroom or for a group book discussion? We can get them for you from our collection or other libraries in our system, often for an extended check out period.

All you need is a valid Illinois library card. Or if you don't have that, you can ask your school librarian if your school has a school library card and who the authorized users are.

Book Talking in Your Classroom

Speaking of book discussions... We love talking about books.  We believe everyone has the potential to be a reader if you find just the right book.

We would love to come to your class or library and bring a load of books to talk about, and even let the kids check them out (as long as they own a valid library card).  We like to talk about new books and our favorites, but we can promote a selection of books on any theme you’d like.

Study Rooms Available

Are your students looking for a quiet place to study? Or maybe they need space to spread out for a group project but don't want to make too much noise or mess in the Library?

We have five Study Rooms available for all of the above. In Adult Services we have two 4-person rooms and one 2-person room. In Kids & Teens we have one 4-person and one 8-person room available.

Students can bring their library card or photo/student ID with them and they can use our Study Rooms for two hours at a time. They can also call us to reserve a room up to two weeks in advance!

Letters to Santa

Are some of your students looking forward to Christmas, but aren't sure how they're going to get that important letter to Santa Claus this year? The Library can help!

Kids can drop off their letter to Santa in our special box at the Kids & Teens Desk between November 25 and December 17, and we’ll get that letter to the North Pole for them! Kids just need to make sure to include their full name and address, and we’ll make sure the big guy himself sends them a response.

Online Resource Spotlight: TumbleBooks

Our Library has a subscription to TumbleBookLibrary, and you and your students can access it from the classroom! It’s unlimited, and it’s free for you to use!

TumbleBooks is an online collection of streaming eBooks for children. All you need is an internet connection and a computer or tablet.

There are over 250 animated, talking picture books! The site also features Spanish and French books, read-along chapter books, non-fiction books, and exciting games and puzzles!

Visit our TumbleBooks page and click any of the links on the page to get started.

Happy Tumbling, everyone!

Collection Spotlight:  Book & CD Kits

Do your students like being read to?  Then take a look at our new CD & Book Kits collection for use in your classroom.

You and your students can listen to the CD and follow along in the book at the same time. It's not only fun, but is a great literacy tool to create links between the written and spoken word.

Our collection is still new, but will continue to grow throughout the year.  But you will still find lots of popular titles, such as Disney, Star Wars, Dr. Seuss, and other classics. But if you don't find what you're looking for, we can always order the Book & CD Kit you want from another library.
