At Elmwood Park Public Library we believe a love for reading starts as a baby. Reading to your child is very important - it opens up the imagination & stimulates the brain. Check out our Moms and Tots and Toddler story times along with our other programs for all ages. Several times a year we also host special performances, such as animals, magicians, puppeteers and musical guests, including Dave Rudolf, Nelson Sosa & his Latin Band.

Our goal is to help children of all ages find that special book and in turn develop a life long reader. Together we can make that happen and we look forward to working with you.

Moms & Tots Story Time

This class introduces children ages 0- 2 to story time and helps develop a love of reading, which provides a strong foundation for learning.  It’s a proven fact that children who read a variety of books have an easier time in school. The Mom & Tots program consists of songs, a few books, a puppet show, and lots of  movement.  This class is 30 minutes in length.

Toddler Story Time

This class is for children ages 3 - 5.  This story time is the next step from our Moms and Tots and offers more books and an age appropriate craft. It also includes a puppet show & music/dancing. After the books are read, we ask a few questions to see if the children understood the message from the book.  It’s great to see the children learn facts without even realizing they are learning. This class is 45 minutes in length.

Welcome to our resources for parents and teachers!  The Youth Services Department knows that children learn so much on a daily basis - from parents, teachers, friends, family, and at the Library. We know how challenging being a parent and or teacher can be and we want to make that challenge a little less daunting by providing you with websites and materials that can help you on your journey.

In addition to finding and providing helpful materials we also provide a variety of services for teachers and schools. Such services include library tours, book club requests, book talks and working with our local Boy and Girl Scouts troops on badges. We pride ourselves in working with our local schools and teachers and want you to know that we are willing to help wherever needed. Feel free to contact us if you need any of the above mentioned services or have ideas for new partnerships. Visit this page often for updates on relevant topics to parents and teachers. Click on any of the links below for interesting sites and activities that you can begin sharing with your child or class now.
