Limited Services Available

Yes, Come In!

With safety precautions in place, the Library is open for browsing, computer use, study room use, open seating, and use of meeting rooms by local organizations. Covered drinks are also allowed. Keep reading for specific information on what is currently available. We hope to see you soon!

 

Browsing the Collection

  • Collections are open for browsing, reading within the Library in open seating areas, or available for checkout.

 

Computer Use - No time limit unless required to provide fair and equal access to public computer stations.

  • Computer sessions are available in both Adult Services and Kids & Teens:
    • Computers are available.
    • No appointment is needed.
    • Computers are available to both residents and non-residents.
  • Computer printing - If you just need to print, but have a computer or device available at home, we highly encourage you to continue to make use of our free wireless printing through Curbside Pickup for now, rather than use the computers at the Library.
  • Tech assistance - Adult Services staff are available for one-on-one technology appointments, which require masks due to the proximity of persons involved and session length. Thank you for your cooperation.

WiFi - Don't forget, if you don't want to come inside the building, the Library's WiFi network extends to parking spaces behind, directly in front of, and across the street from the building.

 

Copy Machine Use

  • Copying - $0.10 a page for black & white, $0.25 a page for color
  • Scanning to USB or email - Free

 

Faxing

Faxing will be available at the Circulation Desk:

  • All Illinois area codes and Toll free numbers cost $1.00 per page.
  • Out of state phone numbers cost $2.00 per page.
  • International phone numbers cost $3.00 per page.

 

Library Cards

  • You may apply for a new Elmwood Park library card at the Circulation Desk. Please make sure to bring a photo ID with your Elmwood Park address on it.  Click here for more information about library cards.
  • You may renew your library card.  Please note that all Library cards that set to expire between January 1, 2020 through December 24, 2021 were / will be renewed until December 25, 2021.
  • You may pay off any preexisting fines you may have. As staff prefer not to handle cash at this time, please bring a credit card if you are able.
  • We can help you at the Circulation Desk if you have other questions about your account, but we encourage you to call the Library at 708.453.7645 to ask questions instead.
  • If you need to renew an item, please call us first instead of bringing in the item. Thank you.

 

Reference Questions, Placing Holds, & Checking Out Material

  • Collections are open for browsing and checkout.
  • Reference Questions & Placing Holds - We are happy to help you at our service desks. 
  • Checkout at our main Circulation Desk.  Self Checkout machines are also available in the main & second floor lobbies.
  • Can't make it in?  You can place holds through the SWAN Online Catalog.  You can also call us at 708.453.7645 or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to ask questions and place holds. Pickup your holds using our Curbside Holds Pickup Service, or signup for Home Delivery.

 

Seating & Study Rooms & Meeting Rooms

  • Limited seating is available for reading, studying, and laptop use. 
  • Study Rooms are available for use per each rooms capacity limits. 
  • Meeting Rooms may be scheduled for use by local organizations.

 

Services Not Available:

  • In-house Programs - In-house programs have been suspended for now. Please check our online calendar for a list of our virtual programs and Carry-Out Kits.
  • Activities - Toys, iPads, coloring sheets, and play areas are currently unavailable in Kids & Teens, but are being slowly added in. Check back on our evolving spaces throughout the summer.

 

 

Returning Material 

book drop1Please return all items (except large specialty items) to the materials return slots in the front of the building, the drive-thru in the rear of the building, or to the return slots in the lobby to the right of the Circulation Desk. 

Large specialty items (such as Beyond Books and Explore-to-Go Kits) that do not fit in the material return slots can be returned to a designated cart by the Circulation Desk during open hours. 

 

For Your Safety

If you feel unwell, we ask that you not visit in person. Take advantage of our Curbside Pickup or Home Delivery services.

Masks

  • On May 20, the Library Board voted to follow Governor Pritzker's order regarding mask guidelines, and switch the Library to an honor system. Vaccinated persons are not required to wear a mask within the Library, but it is recommended that unvaccinated or at-risk persons should continue to wear a mask.  
  • If you feel uncomfortable coming into the Library, please contact us and let us know how we can assist you.

  • Masks are encouraged for those who are unvaccinated or feeling unwell.
  • Please maintain social distancing of 6 feet.
  • While visiting, practice good hygiene such as hand-washing and avoiding touching your face.
  • Food is not currently allowed.
  • Plexiglas dividers will be in place at all service desks.

 

We will continuously evaluate our ability to maintain a safe, healthy environment for staff and patrons. These expectations are subject to change as needed.

  

Ways to Limit Your Time in the Library

We understand that many may still feel uncomfortable visiting the Library at this time. Here are some of things we can offer to help:

  • The Library’s WiFi is available outside the building with no password.  We also have Chromebook Laptops and WiFi Hotspots for checkout.
  • Most Library items automatically renew up to 2 times if there is no hold on the item.
  • All EPPL items continue to not accrue fines for now. 
  • Library staff members are happy to put together a collection of books or other items for you to check out so you don’t have to come in and browse. Fill out these forms for Adults or for Kids & Teens
  • If a family member or friend is available to pick up your holds, they can do so. It’s best if you call ahead and add them to your account.
  • We offer Curbside Pickup and Home Delivery for your convenience.
