Online: SWAN Online Catalog

By Phone: Call us at 708.453.7645

curbside icon number2Wait for notification that your items are ready for pickup

Updated 7/13/20 - Staff will gather your holds and make them ready for pickup.

But instead of staff calling or emailing you, you will once again receive those old fashioned automatic SWAN notifications by text, email, or phone that your holds are ready for pickup.

*Please note that items will no longer be checked out to you ahead of time. Therefore your pickup will take an extra couple of minutes so that we can check out your material to you when you arrive.

**Please bring your library card and cell phone with you. If you do not have a cell phone, please call ahead and schedule a time to pick up your items.**

By bike or foot:  Find a marked space for Walk-Up Holds Pickup Services on the east side of the building near the Avenue of Flags and follow the instructions posted there.
**Please make sure you wear a mask as required. **

Please be respectful of our staff safety. Do not approach staff members when they drop off your items. Thank you.

How long can I keep items once I’ve checked them out?

Checkouts are 3 weeks. You can have up to 2 renewals as long as there are no holds on the item.

Didn't my items used to get checked out to me before I picked them up?

Yes, but we are no longer doing this.

Now that SWAN has started sending out notifications again by text, email, and phone, we have stopped checking out items ahead of time.  You will now get notifications that your holds are ready for pickup.  Just note that your pickup will take an extra couple of minutes so that we can check out your material to you when you arrive.

book drop1How do I return items once I’m done?

Please drop off material through the materials return slots at the front of the Library, with the drive-thru in the back, or the bin in the lobby.

For staff safety, please do not hand books and DVDs to staff members, as all items must immediately go into quarantine.

quarantine items 800w

Why are we quarantining material?  The REALM Project has been conducting research on how long the COVID-19 virus survives on materials that are prevalent in libraries, archives, and museums. The most recent results found that on stacked material (which is how the Library quarantines material due to space issues), trace amounts of the the virus can be found after 6 days. This means that for staff safety we will quarantine items for 7-10 days. RAILS, which handles all inter-library deliveries, has also required all libraries to quarantine material for at least 7 days before they will pick up items for delivery.
