What do a face mask, clean hands, and a library card have in common? They are all tools to keep you and your family safe during a pandemic!

Through our online resources, curbside pickup, and limited capacity reopening, the Library is working hard to help keep you safe while still providing most of the resources you are used to. Whether you want to go on an adventure with a great book, binge your favorite TV show, start a new hobby, or use a computer to apply for a job, we can help connect you to the tools you need.

September's Giveaways

The first 250 people who register or renew their library card will receive a pocket-sized hand sanitizer and a cloth face mask. This giveaway will continue through the end of the year while supplies last.

How do you get a library card? It's easy.

If you are 18 or older, all you need is a photo ID with your current Elmwood Park address: a current Driver's License or State ID. That's it!  If you are under 18, come in with your parent or legal guardian.

(If your ID does not have your current address, then a second piece of identification will be required.  Click here for more information.)

Just stop by the Circulation Desk and we'll sign you up!

Digital Library Card

If you can’t make it into the Library, we are proud to offer a temporary digital card that you can sign up for from home.

It provides access to all of our online resources including eBooks, eAudiobooks, online databases, homework help, and more. To obtain your digital card, just follow this link. You must be at least 13 years of age to register.

2019 library card signup month1 500wLibraries are Wonderful!

A Library card lets you explore all the wonders that libraries have to offer, including access to information, entertainment, job searching, homework help, and so much more!  With a Library card you can connect to:

  • Books & other collections - Check out the usual books, movies, music, magazines, and video games.  Find it all through our SWAN Catalog

We also have Kindles, bike locks, device charging cords, laptops, and tons of other fun and useful stuff in our Beyond Books collection.

Prefer reading/listening digitally? Your library card connects you to a variety of eBooks and eAudiobooks available through the Libby and Axis360 apps.

  • Book Recommendations - Not sure what you want to read?  Use your library card to connect to Novelist, which provides book recommendations for readers in all age groups, allowing you to search your favorite books or authors to find read-alikes, or search by appeal terms, like "funny and quirky," or "moody and brooding."  Use Novelist to connect to your next great read!

  • Interlibrary Loan - Is what you want checked out? We can place holds on books and other items that we don’t own. On average it takes about a week, and it's free.

  • Computers & Internet Access - We have plenty of computers to use, free with your Elmwood Park Public Library card.

  • Online Resources for Research & Learning - We have a wide variety of online resources on our website that you can use with your Elmwood Park Public Library card.

Get online tutoring with Tutor.com, which provides tutors, skills building, practice tests, and more.

Learn a new language with Mango Languages. This interactive resource can be used on the computer or via the app, and offers over 70 languages to learn using conversational learning.

You can also research your family tree, get career advice, or find full-text articles for whatever research you are working on.
